Young Player Identification & Selection Workshop

The Young Player Identification and Selection Workshop is designed to support coaches, selectors and others involved in identifying and selecting netball players for squads and teams across club, school and national age-group pathways.

This workshop provides a practical and interactive learning experience, combining interactive delivery, practical activities, video analysis, small-group discussions and opportunities to explore and apply the principles of effective player identification in real-world selection environments.

Whether working within a club, school or national under-age pathway, participants will develop their understanding of selection processes, observation and decision-making to support fair, consistent and informed selection decisions.

What does this workshop involve?

The workshop consists of two 2.5-hour online sessions, providing opportunities to explore key principles of player identification and selection including

Workshop Content Includes:

Organisation & Communication: Effective organisation and communication with parents, carers and stakeholders
Behaviours of Selectors: Exploring the behaviours, responsibilities and professional standards required to support fair, consistent and effective selection decisions.
Identification/Selection Criteria and Grading: Understanding the principles of player identification, selection criteria and grading to support informed decision-making across different environments.
Practical Observation, Analysis and Decision-Making: Applying observation and analysis skills to assess identified players through video-based activities and practical discussion.
Key Player Development Areas: Exploring key areas used to identify and assess performance including; movement and ball skills, game understanding and match play.
