Netball in Portugal Recognised by World Netball and Europe Netball

Netball Portugal has been formally recognised by both World Netball and Europe Netball.
On 26th August 2025, World Netball confirmed that Netball Portugal, represented by Janet Shepherd-Stone, is the only organisation in Portugal officially recognised by the global governing body. World Netball also confirmed Netball Portugal’s status as an aspiring Associate Member, reflecting their commitment to developing and growing the sport nationally.
In a further statement, Europe Netball Chair Catherine Lewis emphasised that Netball Portugal is recognised as an Emerging Member of both Europe Netball and World Netball. This recognition gives Netball Portugal the authority to represent and grow the sport of netball in Portugal at both regional and international levels.
“Netball Portugal is the only organisation within Portugal officially recognised by Europe Netball and World Netball. We are proud to support their continued growth and contribution to our global netball family,” said Catherine Lewis.
This is a major milestone for the sport in Portugal and an exciting step in expanding the netball family across Europe.
